Unbelievably, this plate, VLT, was current from 6/58 to 2/62, if the entry in Newall is correct. |

Glass's says same dates, adding "Allocated in blocks". Sometimes I get the impression such series started with a big early splurge, but late numbers might be issued more slowly, so they can become a comet with a long tail until stragglers are finally mopped up. 58 suggests Anglia Deluxe - it doesn't have Popular lights. |

Sometimes the particular indices are reserved for particular reasons, gov't use, export credits guarantee dept, or whatever. However Newall mentions no such special purpose in this case. Does Glass mention what it means by 'allocated in blocks', for instance by whom and to whom? My understanding from reading the detail in Newall, (did I mention that I suffer with insomnia) was that the issuing was effected by the Ministry, to the appropriate local authority, and that this would seemingly involve block issue as a matter of course. -- Last edit: 2022-11-17 22:38:08 |

"Allocated in blocks" usually means big fleets - public sector particularly (central gov't dpartments, local authorities, utilities, nationalised industries, sometimes MoD, BBC, BRS and GPO, etc) and various big private sector seem to come in late 50s onwards - I think I've seen things like car hire, TV/radio rental, the occasional retail chain, perhaps even film studios. Have not yet found a formal definition or list, but it seems only prevalent in London and neigbouring areas - eg Midlesex, Surrey. I don't think I've ever seen it applied for instance to Birmingham, Manchester, Yorkshire, Scotland, Wales etc. |

btw, There is no “deluxe” below the word “Anglia”, and the rear lamps are painted not chromed, hence no mention from me of it’s more exalted status. |

Even the basic Anglia always seemed to have slightly more goodies than the immediately following Popular, so it could be a base Anglia, even with the strip. |
