Volvo probably, but I've no idea whether it's a P1800 or something similar. |

A detailed identification is difficult, but what is possible to see is that it has the front bumpers with a bend. Those was available on MY:s 1961-64. However: It was originally called P1800, but when the assembly was transferred from Jensen (West Bromwich, Birmingham, England) to the newly built Torslanda factory (Gothenburg, Sweden) the model designation was changed to 1800S (without the P, S=Swedish assembly). I don't know if this is a 1961-62 P1800 or a 1963-64 1800S. |

Is West Bromwich classed as Birmingham? No, it is not. West Bromwich (/ˈbrɒmɪtʃ/ is a market town in the borough of Sandwell, West Midlands, England. Historically part of Staffordshire, it is 6.4 miles (10.3 km) north-west of Birmingham. (Wikipedia). -- Last edit: 2023-02-18 20:03:57 |

@john: Thank you for telling me. I didn't know that. I just jumped to conclusion when I remembered West Bromwich close proximity to Birmingham without checking with Wikipedia or other sources. I also forgot to explain what P means. It is short for "Personvagn" (literal translation: personal carriage) as oppose to L = Lastvagn (=ENG: goods carriage), which is what most cars and HGV:s have been called by Volvo. Earlier models used the longer abbreviation PV and LV. Albeit not used any more in model designation as such, it has been found in front of the chassis number. I don't know if it still does, but it is present on the 940. |

No problem. I was born just across the border from the Borough of Sandwell as it now is, in Harborne, Birmingham, but only because the maternity hospital for the area was there. The 1974 local government reorganisation removed West Bromwich, Smethwick and Wolverhampton etc. from being within Staffordshire into a new county of West Midlands. -- Last edit: 2023-02-19 12:18:41 |
