We now have BMA, BMB and BMC as makes. President start date unclear - some sources say there are 1948-49 examples still around, others give 1950. My tractor book says BMB postwar stuff was small pedestrian-pushed 2-wheelers with names like Hoe-Mate, Cult-Mate and Plow-Mate until President launched at 1950 Royal Show, at £239 with a Morris 8 engine. Very successful for BMB as a small firm and the only rival in early 50s for Fergie TE-20, and widely exported, selling well in Ceylon and Greece; vineyard and orchard versions added in 1954, but sales began to drop as UK small tractor market became over-saturated. |
