I imagine that it belonged to a collector in the US. It looks pretty authentic as a 1970s police car (at least to me), so perhaps the owner had already customised it as one. |

This car is a 1969 Ford Zephyr Mk IV Police Car. It's owned by Mike Frankovich, Jr., who lives in California and has the largest collection of English Fords in North America. His collection was the subject of an article in the November, 2005, issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car. There was a picture of this car with the caption "One of 25 built (and one of only two still existing [this fact is disputed]) with Ferguson full-time all-wheel drive. It served in County Durham for a number of years, and later went on to land a role in the legendary British TV police drama 'Z Cars' as well as a couple of episodes of 'Alias.'" An entire article was devoted to this specific car in the December, 2005, issue. Frankovich's collection also includes a 1961 Ford Zephyr Wagon that appeared in an episode of "Murder, She Wrote" and a Chrysler 300C that appeared in "Quiz Show." He also owns two of the three surviving Edsel Amblewagon ambulances (I'd love to see one of those appear in a movie). |

An article about Mike Frankovich Jr's collection is on the Hemmings Motor News website, but it doesn't go into detail about this Zephyr. http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2005/11/01/hmn_feature26.html The article mentions in passing that a Zephyr estate belonging to Frankovich appeared in a Murder, She Wrote episode set in Ireland - perhaps it really means this Zodiac: /vehicle_107115-Ford-Zodiac-1962.html -- Last edit: 2008-05-31 20:03:20 |

I think this car MKIV FORD ZEPHYR used to belong to a guy called Paul Jarvis who lived in the UK. If you look at the front grill to the left between the left fog light and the centre ford symbol you will see a black square, if the picture was more clear it actualy says mark iv zephyr zodiac owners club. This car featured in Practical Classics magazine(mid to late 80's) which is sold in the uk along side my farthers MKIV ZODIAC EXECUTIVE. I have been in this car when i was much younger than i am now and it was great. I was very supprised to see that the old girl has ended up in the States! Nice to see she has been put to good use and is still looked after. Lucky guy Mike Frankovich. P.S. Anymore pictures available please ?????????. If you go to WWW.geocities.com/zephyr_mark4/bship.html you can read the artical giving thanks to my dad Peter Barnes and also John Glaysher who is the MKIV'S Club Treasurer. -- Last edit: 2009-03-15 22:07:58 |

Brilliant discovery - a 4wd Zephyr. Only thing to add is that it's a deluxe with chrome grille. |
