Tried to capture radiator badge several times, but never quite sharp enough ... No trace now of T 54 (or anything useful for xT 54). TS 4 is a black 2015 Cayenne V8 diesel.

Normally, I find myself struggling with the images of half a car, or back views or whatever. This time we have excellent images and I still don’t know what it is. Usually I can identify a British make, and then need the books to home in, this time I can’t even do that, and I am now wondering if it’s Italian, but not Lancia or Fiat. Ansaldo?

Yes, I know about the wheels and windscreen.

According to the rickety plot, the car was provided by the War Office. But I'm sceptical about that being a reliable piece of info, particularly as I'd guess it's a fair bit younger than "1916" setting.

Intrigued by the Ansaldo idea. Found this dark blue 1927 4H Tourer in Northampton in a now sold ad. Very similar, but screen, wheels and other details don't match, and I wonder if our car has a longer bonnet (tried to capture the length in thumbs 4&5). But it may be a useful comparison to show that they've removed all the Ansaldo insignia from grille and bonnet top for filming, so explaining why the screen car has no visible identity.

Compare also this 1924 4CS for what should be there. This barn-find 1925 Ansaldo 6B Torpedo might help with the engine and bonnet length - more pics of same one here. And there's this 6AN Dual-Cowl Torpedo Tourer sold by Bonhams in 2011 as another broadly similar example, but it lived in NZ when this series was filmed.

So Ansaldo seems a very solid suggestion, and I wonder where our car is now ....

I think I found it: it's a Sunbeam 14/40 tourer 1924. The intake pipe with this very characteristic design can be found in this model. but from what I saw the engines were much bigger and classic. A stylized intake or exhaust pipe like this one is worthy of Bugatti :) I think the car in the movie has been modified: the upholstery on the inner doors seems to have been removed...
