This scene was an reenactment of the failed armed robbery and shootout between Detective Sergeant Roger Rogerson and other members of the NSW Police Armed Hold-Up Squad and armed robbers, Allan Markham, Robert Hewitt, and Lawrence "Butchy" Burns outside the Rural Bank on Anzac Parade at Kingsford, NSW on the morning of the 19th February 1978. At the time, Burns, Hewitt and Markham had arrived outside the Rural Bank where they were going to rob the payroll for the South Sydney Junior Rugby Club that was due to be delivered in the club's VW Kombi Van from the club to the bank. In the shootout, Burns who at the time of the robbery was on work release and was about to be released from Silverwater Correctional Complex was shot and killed while Markham and Hewitt were wounded and arrested. Unlike the scene, the car used by Markham, Hewitt and Burns in the robbery was a 1968 Chrysler Valiant VIP V8 sedan. -- Last edit: 2024-01-22 05:34:15 |
