I would say a Series IIIb by the grill. |

There was no S3b Special - Special was the poverty trim with bench seat and replaced by Standard when S3b launched. S3a-c all had same grille design and are impossible to split in distant views - however there was a subtle difference that S3a had chromed metal, while S3b/c had stainless steel pressing which looked flimsier; sometimes I think I can tell the difference in clear close-up views, helped by a few years experience when I was a nipper of washing the family Husky S2 every weekend with a sponge - my dad let me do the grille, bumpers and hubcaps because I used to like getting them clean and shiny. Otherwise splitting S3a-c is difficult - S3c had slimmer side trim than b/c, but was the most common phase for single colour paint - most 3a/b had 2-tone. Looks thick side trim here, so maybe S3b works. |
