During the Seventies, Ford dramatically downsized its cars following an industry trend. When they introduced the smaller cars, they gave them the 'II' designation after the model name in order to avoid confusion with the full-size lines that were still proudly produced. That way, we now have Mustang II, Bronco II and LTD II, much to the confusion of spare parts sales clerks. |

And the LTD II was actually bigger than the "fullsize" LTD in 1979!! To make things more confusing. After 79 LTD II's were discontinued. |
