@paul: nice information-find, but definetely wrong for the car above. It is no NSU. |

The registration record says that the car in the photo paul4990 linked to is an NSU, but as far as I can tell it looks more like a ZAZ 968 than an NSU Prinz. Am I mistaken or is something odd going on? |

No, you're right, the car on the link is a ZAZ 968, too. Someone just took the plate of a NSU for it .... perhaps the FIN-number, too?? |

Maybe it's not possible to legally register a ZAZ in Britain so they (illegally) took the identety from a simillar NSU to get it road legal (well somewhat legal)??? -- Last edit: 2009-06-19 00:19:35 |

As Leoz wrote, there was an import to the UK for a short time: /vehicle_146120-ZAZ-966-Zaporojetz-1973.html btw., the ZAZ was no NSU-licensed product, it was just a kind of more or less copy. Inside there is not much NSU-like. The front axle is simila to the VW Typ 1. NSU-friends of me have wrecked ZAZ 968, they gor for free (as usual in the early 90ies), just for looking, how close it is to a NSU. -- Last edit: 2009-06-19 00:19:59 |

I noticed James May said something like "How do we know this is a communist thing? How do know it's not just a Russian thing?" before introducing the East German vehicles, implying that all vehicles they had tested including this were Russian. That was inaccurate. The ZAZ is Ukrainian, part of the former Soviet Union but not Russia. I would have thought James May would know better than that, tut tut! |
