This vehicle and winch design was only produced up until mid-1940 according to a CM article about the barrage balloon scheme.

Newer winches were to be built on trailers that could be towed by any truck to the necessary site.

The trailers each had their own towing eye at the back, so up to two trailers could be towed by each truck.

Possibly RMG186 or RMC186 registration?

Both were Middlesex issue to War Department, starting in about Nov 38 (RMC) and March 39 (RMG). So - with the mid-38 dates here as well - looks as if Sussex cab change from [79] to [917T] was later than normal range changeover.

Thanks dsl :)

Potentially it was RMC186 November 1938, if what I see of the number-plate and the following logic is correct. Of course they may have been some 'mixing' if chassis were waiting for winches to be added or waiting to be registered?

Evidence seen here in the CM article that PMG45 and PMG508 were the later Barrel Nosed cab unit so presumably before March 1939 RMG186.
