Grille reminds me of late thirties Austins, but the body is younger than that and all Austins at that time had chambered hoods... EDIT: it definitely has that type of grille in HD. -- Last edit: 2022-09-10 08:47:40 |

What the heck is a chambered hood? Would it leak? -- Last edit: 2022-09-10 08:47:15 |

No. Late 30s Austins had cowled grilles. https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1491028 Being English cars, the hood keeps the rain off the passengers, the bonnet keeps the rain off the engine. Link to "www.swva.co.uk" The example you show was registered in the County of Middlesex in the autumn of 1934. As far as your comment about the body being younger, also wrong. The car may be a 1934 Austin Light 12/4 Open Road Tourer. -- Last edit: 2022-09-10 09:12:57 |

But at least I was right about it being an Austin? |

^ I think probably, but from the body and wheels. Since my iPad does not work in hd I can’t be certain about the grille. -- Last edit: 2022-09-10 09:15:26 |

Wait, I'll send you some higher quality thumbs. Here: I myself hoped to find this car on team-bhp, but without luck. -- Last edit: 2022-09-10 09:20:45 |

Looks more like it to me. The number of doors suggests Twelve, rather than Ten, it probably needs a longer chassis to fit that coachwork. The body must have been fairly flexible. |

If there is no dissent by 10.00 am tomorrow I’ll post it as above. |

I think on the site we don't differentiate between Light and Heavy 12: /vehicles.php?make=austin&model=12%2F4&page=1 |

^ We should. They ain’t the same. Light 12/4 1525cc 1933/34 and 1935/36. Heavy 12/4 1861cc 1933/35. Light 12/6 1496cc and 1711cc 1933/36 and 1934/37 And, not to be forgotten, 12 1660cc 1924+ and 1861cc 1930/32. (Plus the taxis until 1939.) -- Last edit: 2022-09-11 19:48:44 |
