The van in the thumbnail and the van in the main pic are different. The thumbnail looks to be a 1939 Chevrolet 2-ton The main looks to be something post-war japanese, but I cannot figure it out |

Ah. There are two of them in the scene. I just looked at them and the fronts are different. I'll list the Chevrolet separately. |

No clue. It whizzes by pretty quickly. I listed both as 2-star because although only one of them is involved in an ensuing breakout by the convicts, the way it's shot it's difficult to tell which van they break out of. -- Last edit: 2009-02-26 07:19:08 |

Having rewatched the film, it is this van and not the Chevrolet that is used in the breakout sequence, which seems a mite odd because it was the lead vehicle whereas the Chevy was bringing up the rear, yet when the convicts bust out and the driver stops, the Chevy isn't behind them anymore. Bad editing. As far as identifying this one, I think we should look for vehicles of the era with those weird indentations above the windshield as seen in the main pic and the second thumbnail above. What are those? Lights? They make me have this crazy idea that this is a conversion from a bus... -- Last edit: 2009-02-26 07:28:25 |

I think this might be a Datsun or Nissan. See the Datsun 4157 here: http://www.earlydatsun.com/ute.html Or the unidentified Nissan bus listed here: http://www.earlydatsun.com/bus.html In fact the more I look at it, the more I'm convinced that it's the same as that 'unknown' Nissan. Only real difference between the two is the lack of a split windshield on this one. -- Last edit: 2009-02-26 12:38:15 |

Actually,, I think that this is a modified version of the Nissan Type 5170, with an extended chassis and rear box. This is the closest I could come to a presice model and make i do not know, however, why the police system would still use pre-war cars as late as 1955. i know its a movie prop car, but I would think that Toho, with the money gained from Gojira, in 54, could afford something newer |
