According to this "The convertible, Coupe DeVille, and Sedan DeVille used solid metal trim on the lower half of the conical projectile flares, while other models had a thin ridge molding in the same location, I think it isn't a Sedan De Ville and only a Series 62 4-door [6239X] Comments? |

I tend to agree, even if I'm not sure what molding is actually used here. |

Comment by mrcadillac, 2009-04-01 22:42 (mistakenly deleted because it appeared twice on my screen, but recovered from browser's cache) The text vilero is referring to obviously comes from 'Standard Catalog of Cadillac, 1903-2000' by James T. Lenzke. -- Last edit: 2009-04-02 01:12:28 |

It appeared twice for me too, i guess we had the same idea at the same time, so we deleted both messages. |

I hadn't seen this answer before, maybe due the previous deleting problem. My info and with those exacts words between "" came from here 1958 Cadillac Series 62at the beginning of the page, second paragraph, white letters with blue blackground. -- Last edit: 2009-04-04 13:51:51 |

Animatronixx is 100%correct. Vilero's info comes from James T. Lenzke's book, "Standard Catalog of Cadillac, 1903-2000". I have the Cadillac Dealer Data Book for 1958, describing in detail all major differences in the various body styles, as well as dozens of photos (from factory originals to surviving cars). The only noticeable trim difference in that area is when cars were ordered with fog lights; in that case the "solid metal trim on the lower half of the conical projectile flares" was replaced by a glass lens; the upper part covered the parking lights and the lower part covered the fog lamps). I do not understand Mr. Lenzke's reference to "a thin ridge molding in the same location" for sertain models. I really would like to view comparative photos of the two alleged different trim finishes in the loaction identified by him; am I perhaps missing something? |

Is it there, guys! Mr. Lenzke is right about solid metal trim on the lower part of conical projectile flares on De Ville models. But to see exactly, you have to see side view of the car or 3/4 rear view, otherwise it is impossible to determine difference in the trim from this photo |
