Not sure about modelname for these T2:s, older ones were called Piccolo Autobus or Giardinetta if they were Bus or Kombi. It´s not easy to tell the difference either. So until we know better I´ll pick Piccolo Autobus. |

This is not an Italian-model Volkswagen T2, but rather a British market right-hand drive version. This can be seen from the front number plate, and the fact that the car is right-hand drive. On the DVD commentary, it is explained that the episodes of Return of the Saint filmed in Italy in 1978 (of which this is one) had a collection of support vehicles, including several Volkswagen T2s which went out with the production from their usual base in Britain. This is one of the the crew support vehicles, which I believe also appears in the episode 'Hot Run' with a false Italian number plate (the right hand drive is a giveaway). From what I can from the number-plate, 1973 looks like the correct year, as is this an 'M' registration. |
