This is a 124; the Lada wasn't imported into the UK till 1974: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lada#United_Kingdom_and_Ireland I remember the oldest one I've seen on British plates (badged as Zhiguli, in Cyrillic) had an M registration (1973-4).
