I remember the Dinky Toy version and the real thing on British Railways (1950-1960s) Dinky Toys list it as a B.E.V. Electric Truck, but I cannot find an recent reference to the manufacturer. |

I've found three possible manufacturers... Ransomes BEV (British Electric Vehicles - Wingrove & Rogers Ltd.) Steel Engineering Products who made the "Electric Eel" truck Of these Ransomes Electric Truck looks most similar and is mentioned by http://www.ipswichtransportmuseum.co.uk/plattruc.htm as being used by British Railway/main line railway companies.
