Any royal army fans on the site? |

I'm no expert with military vehicles but its not a Alvis Scorpion based tank I believe. Closest I can find is a French GIAT Industries AMX-13 Light Tank. What its doing being pulled on a British trailer/tractor unit I don't know (if it is French?). http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=175 Any military vehicle experts please comment?? By the way... Its British Army (or just 'Army'). 'Royal' is applied very selectively for historical purposes. So its Royal Navy and Royal Air Force but not Royal Army. |

Yes, right! That exactly what they (D&M) talking about in this episode. I just forgot. So, maybe, just call it Alvis unknown? Or Alvis FV100 series? -- Last edit: 2010-03-26 01:57:22 |

But its not an Alvis IMHO. The details match the ARE AMX-13 Light Tank except for the turret I believes... /vehicle_109445-ARE-AMX-13-75-Modele-51-2F-1952.html So ARE unknown. |

Fairly sure its an American made M24 Chaffee , late war tank also used by the British , though this must be museum piece or private collectors tank by this time. -- Last edit: 2010-03-26 12:13:13 |

The small upper track wheels appear to be different however the Cadillac M24 Chaffee has only three per side whereas the D&M tank (and the ARE AMX-13 Light Tank) both have four? The hatch detail on thumbnail No.2 appears to match the detail here... /vehicle_109445-ARE-AMX-13-75-Modele-51-2F-1952.html and the turret is mounted well towards the back(?)-thumbnail No.3- not like the centrally mounted M24 Chaffee. -- Last edit: 2010-03-26 14:44:38 |

So it is ARE AMX unknown ? Wheelbase and tracks identical. -- Last edit: 2010-04-02 23:25:12 |

Right , I've solved it through help from people at HMVF website , If you said M24 Chaffee OR AMX 13 your're right ! Its an AMX 13 Chaffee. Some models of the AMX 13 were fitted with turrets from M24 Chaffees . If you google AMX 13 Chaffee you will see one or two of these mongrels! -- Last edit: 2010-04-14 09:45:54 |

Its being bugging me this one! Apparently rare , only 150 were built for the French Army in the later stages of the Algerian war so what this one is doing in UK is a mystery. Or did the TV producers splash out and send a Thornycroft Antar tank transporter to France !! ho ho -- Last edit: 2010-04-14 11:15:08 |

Bovington Tank Museum was the most obvious place it could be but its not listed on their site so perhaps one exists in either another museum or private collection in the UK? |
