For a movie as early as 1965 the contrasting/lighter roof probably identifies this as a Mini-Cooper 997cc (1961). It was only with later models that the basic Mini was made with such a colour scheme, I think. -- Last edit: 2006-04-15 14:43:28 |

Hi, I'm not sure but for me is not a Mini but most probably a Mini-based Riley Elf or Wolseley Hornet. Please, examine the different shape of the front bonnet and front bumper and also the chrome surround under the rear quarter window and at the base of the windscreeen, then compare this car with the other on these photos: http://www.austin-rover.co.uk/press/ado15_168249.jpg http://www.austin-rover.co.uk/press/ado15_hornet61.jpg |

Francomini, I think you are probably right. I hadn't spotted the reflection on the bonnet and the rear is not visible, (the rear panel seam also might not be there). I think the thing that confirms for me it is an Elf or Hornet is the bright trim below the windscreen and side windows. I'm not certain but I don't think they were used on the Mini or Mini-Cooper. The press photographs you linked to showed the Riley Elf with the contrasting coloured roof, so that agrees. Hornets from a couple of pictures on the internet also look to be the same. So unlikely we can tell the difference between Wolseley and Riley versions. |

Bebert, Merci, merci encore. ![]() Confirms it is an Elf or Hornet but without showing any differences between the two models I think. The rear lights or reflectors look a little strange, so I will see if I can find anything similar. |

With these bumpers , whatever they are (Elf or Hornet), we can be sure of MkII 1963+ |
