Leyland chassis I believe with Merryweather turntable. Possibly Leyland Tigress. The home office ordered Leyland/Merryweather turntable ladders from 1939 as a replacement for the German designed Metz turntable ladders. |

Should possibly be named Leyland TL Merryweather in common with others (TL Merryweather and TL Metz turntable ladders). |

The vehicle is a Dennis chassis with a 100' (30m) Merryweather turntable ladder and Dennis fire pump. It was posted to Lambeth fire station when new in 1938 and moved on to another station in 1939. It was the 1st of many Merryweather turntable ladders to be supplied to London Fire Brigade. The Home Office Merryweather ladders, all on Dennis chassis, did not start arriving until 1940. Where's That Fire was a prewar Will Hay film. |
