Why 'Sports'? Was this part of the model name for export models?

Should it not be 'MG B' alone? That is how most are listed on IMCDb.

('MG B' will always be sports-convertible and 'MG B GT' would always be the sports-coupe.)

Its just MGB. If you have to add something, the ID plate on the car calls the roadster a "tourer".

It seems to be exact definition of convertible MG B in France, though every body knows it as MG B (source R.BELLU All cars of the 60's)

I think for publicity purposes, advertising and brochures the term 'Sports' was used to separate it from the GT. But it is not part of the model name I believe.

I do not agree so much :/ because as you can see on this advertising the term Sports is at same level than the term GT, so why a coupé should be named MGB GT, and roadster only MGB... up to me "Sports" is a genuine commercial designation for this MGB as Spider or Sprint for an Alfa Romeo, for instance :??:

sixcyl, I understand your disagreement.

But the car has never been badged as 'Sports'.

The brochures that use 'Sports' as I said, are those where the GT version also appears. For its own brochure the model is 'MGB' only. Its a case where in other brochures the word saloon, sedan, or estate could be used by the advertising department.

For the models described separately in BL photographs the description is without the word 'Sports'.

Je pense que Sunbar a raison, je ne trouve aucune trace du mot "sports" accolé à MG B, à propos du cabriolet, dans les bulletins du MG club de France.
