![]() A tip to find many sun-burned VW's is "Continental Specialities": Link to "maps.google.com" ![]() It's known by many VW-freaks from Europe since a long time. In July 1993 I made on my autodriveaway-tour an extra trip to Alamogordo for visiting the place. Fortunately the (sometimes a bit strange) owner liked me, so I could take many photos. Other guys were send away by him. ![]() No kidding, the owner -he deals with that stuff as a business- loughed about me, when I told him about the situation with body-parts for old VW's, for example the extreme expensive and rare front fenders for the 1970+ "longnose" Typ3. He hasn't believed that problems. "The technic counts, the rest doesn't matter" he said. One photgraphed part was a real "Holy Grail", as I've heard later on from the freaks: a boxy US- or Mexican made Hardtop for the 181 "Thing" The best joke came from the yard-owner (he mant this seriously!). I've said "Fortunately you don't have rust-problems here, except the sun-burns" - he really answered "Oh, no, that's not true! It's very humid over here! We have 13 inches of rain every year!" 13 Inches per year!!! ![]() -- Last edit: 2010-07-20 14:04:53 |

@ingo: What I have said about the rust spot is typical in the rust belt ![]() They are worst than the sun baked rust, salt eats away the bare metal that is chipped by the rock/salt during the salting the road in winter. ![]() |
