I'm not so sure it's 535i or not because 17" wheels are aftermarket definitely. At least 1" too much for E28.

well... 1986+ based on the CHMSL... so the choices for the U.S. would be 528e or 535i (after ruling out 535is and M5 of course). the 535i that came here exclusively with the TRX wheels motivated almost everyone to switch wheels for more "standard" sizes by about the 3rd set of tires, but plenty of people upgraded from the 14" "bottlecap" alloys on the late 528e models as well, so that certainly is no guarantee. i s'pose a shot of the rear would be too much to ask for..?

:p

Somebody who knows E28s better than me can decide if a US 535i would have headlamp washers, black window trim, wheel arch mouldings and front and rear spoilers, all of which were on UK versions (though with differences between 535i and M535i). Until then, this looks to me like a simple 520i with exotic wheels.

there were no 520i models in the U.S. at all... and the only U.S. spec. e28 with the blacked out trim was the M5. those would have had the front and rear spoilers as well (as would the 535is models). headlamp washers and wheel arch mouldings never came to the states at all. this one is physically correct to be either a 528i or a 535i in the U.S., and from this angle, there would be no difference.

I'm pretty sure there was a good view of the 535i badge on the back.

In 1984-1985 BMW had the "North American incident" with 524td also. ;)

there were indeed about 17 or 18 524td specimans imported. i owned 4 of them at one time or another. 2 bronzit, 1 delphin, and a white parts car.

i eliminated the 524td as a possibility here, because there were exactly ZERO running and driving examples left on american soil at the time that this was filmed.

[:rofl]

Plus this is a '86, so that rules out the td.

This engine had a long life. GM had bought it for the Opel/Vauxhall-range. The 2.5 liter DTi-engines from the Omega are slightly revised BMW-machines.

The rims is probably from M5 E39 or M wheels
