A Land-Rover 101 FC was listed for this movie, so I guess it is this vehicle...

It looks EXACTLY like a land rover  even to the little pop gun on top.

I cannot find any reference that confirms that it is based on a Land-Rover 101FC.

Everyone who thinks this is a land rover - hold up your hand.

Es ist Kein 101FC Land-Rover, wie jeder es klar bemerken kann... aber ein 88 Land-Rover (blinker vorne!)

I think we are doing a public disservice to label movie props as legimate cars by legimate manufacturers. We should call them exactly what they are: a creation by some movie prop department. This is true even if we are 100% sure that we know the chassis maker and even if they stick on a phoney decal or logo. I have no problem with listing them for persons seeking information and we should include any extra information that we have but to label the maker of this thing as 'Land Rover' is ludicrous.

By the way, that also goes for junk like /vehicle_6596-Cimbria-SS-custom.html

I just noticed the recently completed movies and the first two may describe my condition this afternoon: "Two much, Chocolat," So for the rest of the day [Image: chut.gif]

I agree, let's call it 'Made for Movie'.

On the other hand, we listed Indiana Jones' Mercedes truck as GMC because it was based on a GMC.

Cimbria SS really exist, it was a kit-car (though I am not 100% sure that this car is based on it...)

If the basis is known, why not list it as it is, by adding of course info that it is heavily modified or completely rebuilt?
Some civil vehicles are in the same case, like busses with custom bodywork.

I have no problem with listing "as it is". My problem is with listing according to what it was or what it might have been once upon a time.

I know movie props are a difficult subject and that people are interrested in them. I agree that we should provide whatever information that we can find relative to them. I guess, my problem is how we do it. In that regard I prefer a plain statement, up front, if its a movie prop with additional information in the background as required.

For the Jones' mercedes, I think the first thing a person should see is that it was a movie prop. They can then find additional information if they wish.

The Cimbra SS is also an example of what I am talking about. We list it as Cimbra SS Custom and the comments indicate that it may have been a VW kit car. We do not indicate anywhere that it was a prop made only for the movie. This may lead someone to believe that such a car could be bought and built - that is simply bad information.

But what is the difference between a non-modified car and a "made for movie"... there are so many cars slightly modified. Like the VW Typ 14 of that same movie which is clearly a modified Typ 14 and not a car made for movie from scratch.
Or that one: /vehicle_8744-Citroen-DS-Custom.html It is clearly a Citroën DS
That's why we usually include "custom" in the name, but maybe we could find a better way to indicate that

I know its a difficult subject, my sugar high is wearing off and I don't have acceptable answers to all the issues. It just bothers me when I see a picture like /vehicle_6596-Cimbria-SS-custom.html labeled as a real positively idenitfied car and I need to gripe a little.

The wheelbase looks completely wrong for a 101 Forward Control Land Rover as the axles are only 101 inches apart, hubs aren't right as neither is the ground clearance (see Judge Dredd vehicle), and therefore wrong for a serious offroader. It looks like a van dressed up as lamb.
