Where is this scene supposed to be? The IMDB lists filming locations in Vancouver -- maybe this is a reshoot in Canada of a scene set in Hungary. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0297181/locations |

I was thinking the same about the truck? Could it be a Brazilian VW? |

or Peterbilt: /vehicle_10860-Peterbilt-200-1989.html |

I made a page for it, with another picture (but there is no better view) /vehicle.php?id=146675 |

And about the location, these two vehicles are in the same scene: /vehicle_6357-Mercedes-Benz-308-T1-1977.html /vehicle_39773-Austin-1-2-Ton-Pickup-1958.html |

For me the truck looks very much like based on the Brazilian VW-truck (which is originally based on the VW LT 1975+, resp. the MAN-VW). If Peterbilt, did they made a licensed production of VW do Brazil-trucks? As I see the other link, it seems so. Interesting, I didn't know that. |

But what would it be doing in Europe? Or was this scene shoot in Canada despite the presence of the two other vehicles? |

Well, I doubt that there are any 1958 Austin ½-Ton Pickups running around Hungary, because it was part of the Soviet bloc when they were new. On the other hand, there must be at least a few Minis because they're a popular cult car. But a Mini, a 1950s Austin and a Brazilian VW together lead me to think that this wasn't filmed in Hungary. It looks to me like another instance of the "Europe = old cars" syndrome that afflicts Alias and the recent Pink Panther film with Steve Martin, for instance. Because only a few European makes are currently sold in North America, film producers faking European settings in the US or Canada end up resorting to using classic cars. -- Last edit: 2007-12-30 20:36:48 |
