Probably an Oshkosh, FWD, or another type of heavy american-made runway firetruck |

this truck seems to have a very distinctive 3 pieces windshield and I haven't seen any Oshkosh with that |

the only airport fire truck left unsolved in the entire IMCDB .... could it be the US using european ones in the 60s |

Is that a ladder hanging off the side? Maybe it could have been hung in a different direction. |

I think I found the answer. Never heard of it? I didn't either until I found this. Alvis - something. Looks too big to be the Salamander. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvis_Salamander -- Last edit: 2015-02-10 18:56:56 |

unfortunatly not, the Alvis has 3 axles and the bars on the window is wider also highly unlikely that San Francisco Airport would use something non-american ![]() this one was a pain in the a** cos couldn't find anything from US producers like Walter,Oshkoch , Ward Lafrance, American LaFrance etc -- Last edit: 2015-02-10 18:58:41 |

I'm extremely disappointed to read that you have never heard of Alvis. They were one of Britain's most respected makers of sporting cars and of military vehicles, and are now paying my pension, as I worked for them. |

It's the only ARFF apparatus I found with the 3-piece windscreen.. every other one - ALF, E-one, Rosenbauer, Oshkosh, FWD and so on all had either one or 2-piece. SFFD's ARFF fleet were/are all Oshkosh's, and this is definitely not one. Hmmm.. might remain unsolvable..![]() |

Is there any Fire Engine forum/site we can reach out to to see if they know what this is? Also, why is there not a HD version of this image? -- Last edit: 2015-02-10 19:13:04 |

Did Alvis have a market in the US? I'm more familiar with Oshkosh's and Rosenbauer's ARFF apparatus. -- Last edit: 2015-02-10 19:24:49 |

No, the U.S. tends not to buy European military vehicles, and the largest postwar car was 3.0 litres. The Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance Tracked was sold to some South American armies, generally under the name Scorpion. The Company disappeared when taken over by BAE Systems, who build ships, aeroplanes and submarines but have involvement only in the post design services for vehicles these days. Interesting, Thanks for the info. Most of what I know best are commercial trucks/lorries, fire apparatus/appliances and some buses. Typically, I'm not familiar with most vehicles older than the 1970's. |
