Rather japanese, but I'm not sure for 100% about datsun |

1980+ Toyota Crown could be another possibility... |

I'd go for 1984+ Nissan 300C [Y30?]. Wiki says made in Germany 84-87 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_300C . |

I've just read the featured wikipedia-article, but I'm somehow still not convinced about the "made in Germany" here. And I haven't found any further evidence yet to strengthen that thesis. Could it be some prankster altered the text? |

cl82, I think you're right. Looking at the history page, I see the bit about Germany was added by an unregistered user who's notched up several vandalism warnings. P.S. I've deleted it. -- Last edit: 2011-06-08 21:23:42 |

Never heard about a German assembling either. The only Japanese car, made in Germany, I remember right now, was the Toyota Hilux/VW Taro. Ah, and the mid-90ies Mazda 121, the badge-engineerd Ford Fiesta. AFAIK this Nissan [Y30] was not even sold here. Otherwise, things had happened, which are unkown, even by classic car-fans with a good rooted knowledge, as for example /vehicle_255245-AMC-Javelin-79-K-1971.html |

@Gag Halfrunt: Thank you! But to tell you the truth: I wasn't sure at all at first. I just couldn't think of any German company that would have cooperated with Nissan at that time. Ingo: Yes, these two are AFAIK the only ones. There is or at least was an ISUZU engine plant in Ginsheim/Hessen, but that actually belonged to GM. Apart from that, no vehicle assembly so far. Toyota has been planning to built a plant in Germany for many years, but they somehow always postponed it and chose different locations in other European countries instead. If the Japanese manufacturers would start opening plants in Germany, the German automotive industry could suffer the same fate as the "Big Three" in the USA. And yes, Karmann in Osnabrück (and Rheine) has indeed assembled a lot of cars for many foreign manufacturers (even for Kia for a short time, if a remember correctly). I knew about the cooperation with AMC and I'd really like to know whether one of the "German" Javelin has survived. Frankly speaking, I wouldn't be surprised if there are no survivors. -- Last edit: 2013-02-21 23:18:54 |

The 300C-in-Germany surprised me, which is why I mentioned it. But I did find the following in a book "An agreement was reached with Volkswagen in 1981 for production of the Santana in Nissan's Zama factory - which got underway in December 1983." So Nissan and VW did sometimes eat their sandwiches on the same bench, and any 300C deal could have been a reciprocal arrangement. |

@dsl: but the only result of this (also really unknown) VW-Nissan cooperation was the Nissan Santana. Except some details -the only big difference was the 20V-5-cylinder-engine of the Audi 100 in the "Autobahn"-top model- a real VW Santana. CKD-mounted - but on every singe part were three logos, Nissan, VW, Audi. Ca.2-3 years ago my Japanese friend Hiroshi and me have thought/tried to export a Nissan Santana -the best and mint one, which was actually known there- but we stopped it, because the Passat-collector here, who was very keen on it, disappeared suddenly. Never heard anything from him, though he lived not far away from me and was active in this club http://www.passat-kartei.de/ to which I've also some connections, still from my 32B-Passat-times. Very strange... The Nissan Santana was sold, after it stood around some months at Hiroshi, to a local VW-collector. |

@cl82: some months ago was something written about a German assembled AMC Javelin, I think in the "Oldtimer Markt". IIRC the owner don't know any other example than his one. |

@Dsl: You're correct. I forgot about that one. Sorry! |

I would agree with it being a Nissan. |

The rear lights are wrong for this to be a Nissan 300C |
