I'm afraid to tell you but the pictured bus taken from the movie 'The Big Wheel' is not a GM model TDH 4509! In fact it's not a 45 passenger bus at all! - it's actually a GM Model TDH 4008. The 4509 and the specially made 4510 and 5101 were the first to have the 'paired windows' and appeared in 1948. Alfred Hitchcock's photo boarding the New York City Omnibus in the movie North by Northwest depicts an actual TDH 4509 which was supplied by the Omnibus Corporation - they didn't have too many vintage vehicle brokers in those days! BTW; by the background cars in the 'The Big Wheel' picture which all seem to be mid thirties vintage, the 4008 is way out of place because it was introduced in late 1946 along with its Thermo-Matic intake over the destination sign. Should be GMC, not GM, to conform to the rest of the database |
