Almost correct. This is the US built version, like this one: /vehicle_21905-Van-Dorn-Six-ton-Tank-M1917-1918.html Therefore it is a 'Van Dorn Six-ton Tank M1917' (1918). |

This FT17 tank has been produced by Berliet, Delaunay-Belleville and Somua as well |

The American made tanks were produced by Maxwell and the C.L. Best tractor company as well as.the previously !mentioned Van Dorm Iron Works in Cleveland, Ohio. While only a few U.S. built examples made it to France before the armistice, more than 1,100 were produced and they were the standard American light tank until the '30s. That explains how one survived to appear in this series. One book, the well regarded "U.S. Military Tracked Vehicles" by Fred Crismon, (1992) reports at least four survivors. I wonder where that example is today? |
