Since the movie is dated 1964, we cannot know if this is one of the very few ones whici were not scrapped later... The color seems white...very strange: All of them were in the tipical Turbine bronze metallic, but this one could have been repainted for the film's purposes... |

I guess this would not be a real Turbine but a look-alike (based on a ????). All that dust (see thumbs on main film page) would have been disastrous. What does it sound like in the film soundtrack - whooosh-whooosh or like a normal car? Any in-car shots during the race of the Turbine driver changing gear with a gearstick?? -- Last edit: 2010-09-30 20:25:15 |

No, she was Turbine truly, one of earlier cars, assembled in autumn 1963, lonely Turbine painted in colour other than "Turbine Bronze Metallic". George Stecher (engineer, test driver and chief mechanic of turbine project) drove her in stunt scenes. The exposing to risk the chief mechanic wasn't safe for whole project. :X However, only this driver, 10-years experienced with many turbine cars, knowing tricks for unusual engine*, was able to pull out whole performance easy and drove her very fast & safe. I think she shouldn't be classifed as concept because 50 cars was assembled in May 1963 to October 1964 period. ___________ *e.g. for spectacular start the turbine car needed before few seconds of hard torque braking. -- Last edit: 2010-09-30 21:15:30 |
