This would be my guess, but it seems the first year of FHC was 1951. Some A-90 Atlantic convertible were exported to Brazil and I remember quite well, but not enough to grant the year. (Production of the Atlantic was short-lived, despite Austin slashing $1,000 from its price in 1949 and, in 1951, the introduction of a fixed-head saloon version with hydraulic brakes and a lower axle ratio. But the convertible ceased to be produced in 1951. Unexpected destination - for me anyway - but the A90 was intended as big export effort - the name gives a clue where they wanted to sell in big numbers. |

Just after the war, Brazil had credits, no car industry and big needs in this field. The whole Europe exported to Brazil, all models, from Fiat 500 to Jaguar Mk VII. Bigger cars than Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz 220 were rarely seen here, although some R-R, Bentley and MB 300 Adenauer came. |
