Thanks for the informative link. My knowledge in English is too weak for that. And in school we mainly had to learn literature-based stuff. One of the reasons for my unpopularity at the English-teacher. I complained many times, that common all-day-English incl. some slang would be more useful in the real life than that out-of-touch-things from ancient books. We even got a worse grading, if we have pronounced with a German accent or -really worst- have used some US-slang, we had picked up in the TV ![]() In the 50ies my mother was forced to learn the pure Oxford-English in school. And all the Shakespeare-stuff, but nothing useful for the daily use in an anglophone country. |
