What makes is specifically a 1988? It looks like it has the door mounted front seatbelts that were exclusive for a 1990 |

Operated by Capitol Cab Cooperative Association of Washington, DC. |

What can I say? Some people on here like to guess. I'll change it to 1990 then. |

I love DC cabs. There is so much variety in the models used and there are frequently cabs that are 10-15 years old (I like older cars). In most cities cars such as the Chevrolet Caprice are all but gone as taxis since they are now 12+ years old (my city's cab company only has 2 left in service), but in DC they are a common sight. When I visited DC in January 2007, I even saw a 1981-1985 Caprice Taxi still in service! That's more than 21 years old! It was run by a company called "silver cab" or something (it was painted silver of course). Have you ever heard of that cab company CougarTim? (You seem to know quite a bit about DC taxis ) |

You wanna have a real authentic taxi-feeling? Then I suggest to travel around a bit. I had a lot of fun to cross the town of Cairo with something like this: http://www.travel-images.com/photo-algeria27.html Yes, the photo is from Algeria, but the Cairo-taxis don't show many differences |

I only know DC taxis because I grew up in the Washington area. There are a lot (probably dozens) of small companies that operate in the city, covering every color of the rainbow and then some. There is a lot of variety in the kinds of cars they use in the area, especially in the suburbs. Most are Crown Victorias, but I've seen a Toyota Echo, a Scion xB, a Subaru Outback, and more serving as taxis. EDIT: I just found the District of Columbia Taxicab Commission online database. It lists 114 "taxicab and limousine companies" that are based in Washington. And they all have unique liveries. The link, if you're interested: http://app.dctaxi.dc.gov/taxilist.asp?page=1&search= -- Last edit: 2008-02-10 01:00:32 |

In the past (40ies to 70ies) in Germany the most taxis had been Mercedes Benz Diesel (sometimes up to 90%). This has changed. The majority is still Mercedes, but at least nearly all kind of cars with four doors an Diesel-engine (not all, a few few fuel-cars were all times in use, too) and in the last year gas-engines you can see as taxis over here. In the last years I've seen some Chrysler PT Cruisers as a taxi. And since a few months some taxi-companies are trusting in Romanian products. They choose the Dacia Logan Estate. I'll look for Washington D.C.-taxis in two weeks, on my vacations. We're travelling with a rental-car, so I will not use them. -- Last edit: 2008-02-10 20:51:31 |

A propos taxi: this movie is important for taxi-freaks, because nearly all shown (and destroyed) cars were used as taxis before: /vehicle_35386-Rumpler-Tropfen-Auto-1924.html |

We still have some W124 MB's in Holland. |

We too. The taxi-drivers liked the W 123 more, and much more it's predecessors, but the taxi-W 123 are mostly gone. In Stuttgart is a W 123 240 D still running as taxi - one year ago it had 1,8 million km on the clock. This taxi: /vehicle_82200-Mercedes-Benz-190-D-W110-1962.html is an (restored) authentic one, nowadays in use in Hamburg. A friend of mine, also a taxi-driver, knows the owner. -- Last edit: 2008-02-10 21:08:16 |

Upon closer examination, this definitely does not have door-mounted seatbelts, making it a 1987-1989 model. |
