As the license plate says, it is a Ford Thunderbird. 1972 - 76 generation. -- Last edit: 2006-08-13 20:58:09 |

Square chrome details around the headlights make it 1973-76. |

It's definitely a 1973 model. The 1973's were the first year for the "stand up" hood ornament and 1974 was the first year for the reverse lamp mounted dead center between the tail lamps, which this model does not have. (making '73 the last year for the 1 piece red lamp lens) Of course only a 1970's T bird would need a supercharger to help propel it thru the streets of Detroit. |

In the trivia section of IMDb for the movie it says this: I am not sure how reliable that is. |
◊ 2016-04-02 23:47 |
Well, considering that we already narrowed it down to specifically 1973... |

This is a badass car! Classic T-Bird with a supercharger! I think the car that got blown up was an empty shell. |

The blow-up vehicle looked not only like a shell, but a complete mock-up...I'm not sure it was ever a Thunderbird to begin with. I'd like to know what happened to the picture car. |

I wouldn't mind knowing that, either. |

Unfortunately he original movie car is here in a scrapyard in Wilmington NC where the movie was filmed You can see what is left of the side pipes, shaved door handles, 80s aftermarket mirrors, homemade trim on the hood around the blower hole, has the push bar on the front, etc. I took home the taillight and push bar. ![]() |

Looks like someone just parked it outside after the movie was made and just let it sit. Figures... |
