GMC P30. |
◊ 2012-12-07 23:14 |
Could it be something like a Workhorse van with a GMC chassis? |

We give the P30 a separate spot in the step van section because for years in the tool business, people used the term “P30” or “step van” and it meant the same thing. P30 was Chevrolet's model name for its 14' - 16' - 18' step van line, and was the tool business standard truck until the early 1990s. Chevrolet also manufactured a heavier step van, the CX-950, or P60, from 1980 until 1993. While loved by tool dealers, the truck didn't sell in enough volume outside the tool business for Chevrolet to maintain satisfactory production levels and it was discontinued. The P60 was available in 18' - 24' versions, and was powered by a 366 or 427 V8 gas engine, or the 8.2L diesel engine. The GVW was approximately 23,000 lbs. http://tooltrucks.com/stepvan.php If this van is obviously bigger than a P30 and is obviously a GMC, it obviously must be a P60. http://www.ecarlist.com/web/1490/vehicle/1579614/ -- Last edit: 2012-12-08 06:06:30 |

1993 GMC P60 Step Van Diesel We just purchased this extremely nice heavy duty GMC P60 Step Van from GE Financial! Caterpillar 3116 diesel power, automatic transmission, 20" wheels/tires, nice box with work bins, and lots of extras. Sold Internet Special $6,990 http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/824/cg640.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/27/8a640.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/51/xg640.jpg/ For Sale for $6,200 in Longmont, Colorado 1990 Chevy P60 Step Van VS Penn Body 25ft http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/94/1990chevyp60stepvan25ft.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/405/1990chevyp60stepvan25ft.jpg/ Who built the body? GMC put its name on it and was promoting it in the TV series Blue Thunder, so it can be considered a GMC. -- Last edit: 2012-12-08 21:05:59 |

That looks a lot like the GMC. |

"1993 GMC P60 Step Van Diesel" is in fact Utilimaster Aeromaster. "1990 Chevy P60 Step Van VS Penn Body 25ft" was built by Penn, like this one: /vehicle_69164-Penn-Hi-Cube-Versatile-Van-1979.html But van from the picture has for example different front wheel arch and for sure is not from Penn. From GMC is only a chassis and probably an engine. |

I realize that the 1993 GMC P60 Step Van Diesel and 1990 Chevy P60 Step Van VS Penn Body 25ft do not have the round front wheel arch. The van in the picture you posted does have a round front wheel arch and a big tilt hood, but who built it? |

That's the question. ![]() |

1982 Chevrolet Chevy Step Van Cargo Sales Brochure Catalog Special van bodies. Bodies for the Chevrolet Forward Control Chassis are designed and built by several manufacturers, including Grumman-Olson Co., Garden City, NY; Boyertown Auto Body Works, Boyertown, PA; Penn Versatile Van, Chicago, IL; Utilimaster (shown above) manufactured by Holiday Rambler Corp., Wakarusa, Ind; and Midas International, Elkhart, Ind. Grumman-Olson Co. (shown left), Penn Versatile Van Division (shown right). Shown on cover: P30 Step-Van King 14’6” steel in Colonial Yellow (bottom). Hi-Cube Van in Almond (top). Link to "www.ebay.com" But these are special van bodies and they do not necessarily say Chevrolet or GMC on them, whereas the Chevrolet Step-Vans and GMC Value Vans say Chevrolet or GMC on the front and rear. GMC trucks were featured on The A-Team (van), Riptide (Jimmy), The Fall Guy (pickup) and Hardcastle and McCormick (pickup). There was no reason to think that the P60 van on Blue Thunder wasn’t as GMC as a GMC P30 Value Van. |

It's not so simple. For example: GMC on Grumman Olson: /vehicle_503655-Grumman-Olson-Kurbmaster.html and /vehicle_266368-Grumman-Olson-Kurbmaster-Junior-P-10.html GMC on Utilimaster: /vehicle_300305-Utilimaster-Aeromaster.html GMC on Hivco: /vehicle_85699-Hivco-Uni-Van.html Same for other makes: Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Freightliner, IH... |

GMC-branded Value Van: GMC grille, GMC on top of back end, GMC on the side, easily ordered at GMC dealership. GMC-chassis special van: not necessarily a mention of GMC, not necessarily easily ordered at GMC dealership. Therefore, a P60 van with GMC prominently displayed on it can be assumed to be a GMC-branded van, and if GMC-branded vans are commonly called Value Vans, the GMC-branded P60 van can be called a GMC P60 Value Van. We know this van is a GMC and we know it's got a P60 chassis. We just don't know what model to call it and there is very little information we know about it. |

ToolTrucks ContactUS Form Did GMC and/or Chevrolet sell their own branded vans on a P60 chassis? If so, what was the model called? I suspect they did, but there is very little information about such a van. Most people just call it the P60. Sometimes the name CX-950 is used, or CX for short. Tom Kincaid ToolTrucks.com LLC But CX-950 is just another name for the P60 chassis, not a model of van. |

here a big mystery for the IMCDB how the heck did Doc get inside the Delorean if it was already in the van cause there isn't enough space for someone to walk on the side.... ![]() ![]() ![]() they should have used a real box truck which is wider and more plausable ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2017-08-21 21:20:16 |

There have been a couple new pictures of a similar model van posted on the Internet since 2012 but no real information about what it is. |

Finally found - van was made by Union City Body Co. Similar on Chevrolet chassis --> http://jingletruck.com/chevrolet-panel-van-food-47603 - has clear information on the nameplate:![]() Acc to Coachbuilt.com: "During the early 50s, they [UCBC] marketed their own line of step vans under the Utility brand. The step vans were manufactured by Utility Truck Distributors Inc. of Union City, as division of Union City Body Co. The firm continued to offer forward-control aluminum step van bodies for Ford, Dodge, GMC, and Chevrolet chassis until 1957 when an exclusive agreement was signed with Chevrolet and GMC Truck & Coach division. During the 1970s and 1980s Union City began providing vans directly to large fleet customers such as United Parcel Service. They also built revised bodywork that could be placed on International, Freightliner or Navistar chassis in addition to General Motors products." It means that from the 1970s they sold vans not only branded as Chevrolet Step-Van/GMC Value Van, but also under their own make. Then - I think - we can list this one and his brothers as UCBC Step Vans. |
