Isn't this a Holden? It looks like it's GM influenced. |

Yes, it's a 70's Holden. |

Althought I notice this is for a show that wasn't filmed in Australia, these were exported to South Africa and some episodes were filmed there so I assume that's where this car fits in. The South African exports were rebadged as Chevrolet i'm unsure of the model name they used instead of Statesman though. |

This car is from episode 32, which, according to the list Ralph posted on the main page, takes place in Thailand. -- Last edit: 2006-09-04 18:57:17 |

Oh yeah oops. They exported cars to Thailand as well, no idea if they were badged Holden or Chevrolet.. |

some of these HQ statesman's were exported minus engines to Mazda in Japan, had rotary powerplants installed, and marketed as the 'Roadpacer". |

I think the grille treatment is absolutely "Pontiac" |

Check out a 1972 LeMans Pontiac and a Holden Monaro of the same year. |

In ZA, or South Africa, the Chevrolet names were Kommando for the less exspensive, and Constantia for the top-line model. |

they exported HJ premiers not HQ statemans. |

Yea the Roadpacer is a HJ Premier, HQ Statesmans were also exported to Japan and sold by Isuzu though. |

I've seen magazine advertisements of the South African HQ Statesman on the 'net as "Chevrolet 350", so that's probably what it's badged as. Although it was designed and built in Australia. |

But this episode was filmed in Thailand, not South Africa. |

Sold as "Chevrolet De Ville" in Thailand: Link to "books.google.com.au" https://performancedrive.com.au/top-10-overseas-holdens-might-not-know-1901/ -- Last edit: 2020-05-29 04:31:26 |

The car in the photograph is an HQ series Statesman de Ville, as evidenced by the split egg crate grille. The HQ was shipped in CKD form to South Africa where is was marketed as the AQ series Chevrolet Constantia (equivalent to the Statesman Custom) and Chevrolet de Ville (equivalent to the Statesman de Ville). The South African cars carried Chevrolet script and badging, and had a revised US Chevrolet Malibu grille. The Constantia was available with a 4.1 litre inline six or 5 litre V8. The de Ville had the Chevrolet 350 V8 and Turbo Hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission. They were fully equipped with aircon, rear window defogger, power windows and aerial, stereo sound, bucket seats and console with T-bar gear selection, power steering and power disc brakes. |
