Yes Kenworth. Not sure of the origins of these at that time. I have an idea that they were built in Australia for a time. Re the exchange rate I am not sure but I think then the NZ dollar was quite low against the US - it dropped as low as 38c in 1983 where only a few years earlier in 1978 they were on par. Lately it has been up over 80c but has dropped to about 77c in recent weeks. Gas price has dropped three times in the last two weeks from a peak of $2.17.9/litre down to $2.05.9 for regular 91. I see the W series began in 1961. It is unlikely to be that old. We had very few big trucks form the uS in that period. |
