Is this really the first one on the site? Imported from 1979-82. -- Last edit: 2012-06-16 20:12:45 |

All the Beta Spider were called Zagato in the USA? |

Yes, from what I remember and can find. Link to "i.ebayimg.com" |

There was /vehicle.php?id=427751 listed as "Lancia Beta Zagato" with "made for USA" tag, without picture; but I guess that it is supposed to be the same kind as this one then. -- Last edit: 2012-06-18 16:26:19 |

There were some late US-only special editions (81-82) with special paint and bigger bumpers like this one, but I don't have details of names. |

From Hemmings: "To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company, a limited number of black and gold-painted Zagatos were released for $1,000 more than the standard car. But Lancia, following in the footsteps of Pontiac (no, really), added the popular scheme to the regular paint list the next season. (The wheel centers were originally black on our 1982-model photo car, but a previous owner changed the wheels to gold to brighten things up a little.)" http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2009/11/01/hmn_buyers_guide1.html |

Confusing. Lancia was founded in 1906, and Zagato (who built these Spiders) in 1919. Might be Pininfarina (who designed them), founded 1930. (all dates from Wiki pages). |

The "Limited Edition" was released in 1979 according to ads and brochures, but it could have been late 1979 for 1980 model year. Link to "www.ebay.com" |

Useful. Reverting to 1979. My UK book sources say Zagato arrived in US with 1756cc and European S2 grille in 78, revised in 79 (2-litre carbs), again in 81 (2-litre injection), and final 82 cars had European S4 Coupe/HPE facelift features (not specified for Zagato, but presumably shield grille, side rubbing strips, and other little bits). This is unusual as it seems there were no European Spiders with the 2-litre injection nor the S4 features. |
