How do you know its a replica? |

Good question. Looks like a perfectly kosher XK120 to me. |

Back then, when the series was made, were there XK-replicas on the market? Especially in this ashes-grey colour? |

It may be a proper XK120 but the white hood is non-original and despite the angle of view the front bumper looks wrong for being complete instead of having a central gap. So possibly a genuine one but crudely equipped. |

Both non-matching details are at the front, meaning it is very likely that it was an original that had been wrecked and later given replacement hood and bumper. And since the series is from 1977-1980 I think its more likely to be an original one, even though (I think) that there were some replicas on the market already, they were still not as wide-spread as they are now. -- Last edit: 2011-12-22 02:38:25 |

By hood I meant the fabric top ...... |

The rear wheel arch looks well dodgy. |

The more I look at this the more I notice - the rear window shape/size as well. But it still leaves open whether it's a bad resto or a bad replica. |

I'd go for a bad (cheap) resto. The hood (top) looks like a cheapie, even before the plastic vanished. The bumper might have come from a wrecked XK140 without the overriders. I thought it was kosher because of details that replica makers get wrong: for instance the windscreen, the fresh-air intake ahead of the door. |
