Iranian assembly? Has 73+ (UK date) round grille badge which came with 1300/1600 upgrade from 1250/1500. |

Don't know, my paper source says only 2-door version was assembled there... |

Difficult to resolve. The conversation about Iran = 2 door only sounds familiar (/vehicle.php?id=418123 ), but if not Iranian it becomes a UK made Sunbeam, and depending where sold a 1300 or 1600 instead of Avenger. If we go down that route I'd label it Sunbeam 1300 Deluxe. Can anyone decide the plate origin as the size looks unusually tall? -- Last edit: 2012-07-18 14:43:20 |

1600 rather: /vehicle_248950-Hillman-Avenger-1978.html The mentioned source, catalogue "Cars of the world" says the 2-door was called there Hillman, but it was catalogue from the 1990s and historical info. was added there just as curiosity - can be not always exact. -- Last edit: 2012-07-17 23:16:15 |

Have emailed paykanhunter to see if he has any ideas. World Cars 1975 has Iran assembling only Paykan and Hunter in 1975 edition, then adding Avenger in 76 edition, so we now have a 76 start date. Am happy that Iranian build cars were called Hillman Avenger (not Sunbeam, and never just numbers 1300/1600). |

Reply from paykanhunter "...as far as I know the 2-Doors were used to be built at the same IranNational factory as Paykans, there are photos of the factory available, which I have to find for you. And the 4-doors used to be imported by IranNational from UK, they were all called Hillman Avengers. There is something unique about the 2-Doors I believe they had the quad headlamps perhaps?...But will get back with you with more details..." So 4 doors were imports only but 2 door local assembly. The 4-headlights-on-2-door idea as unique to Iran is interesting as almost all UK 2 doors had rectangular light trim levels, but there was a GL 2 door with 4 lights. |

Good confirmation. So 1990s Polish catalogue was correct. |
