Another early Land-Rover 80" Series I (1948-50). It is quite possible that this is an original military (RAF) version. The MOD started evaluating LRs with two pre-production vehicles and bought another 20 in 1948. A first batch of 1878 vehicles were purchased in 1949, followed by many more. The military registration numbers for the first batch ran from [00BC01] to [18BC78]. If the numberplate shown here [21AE/F..] is correct it is either one of the first 22 or one produced in 1950. |

Just two mindless observations in regards to the comments above in that the subject car's plate is 21 AE 00, and that it's an altogether different plate (61 LY 67) in the first thumb (though it's obviously supposed to be the same car):![]() ![]() |

Again working from probably incomplete lists, RAF had a few Landies with AE plates but the only ones I can find are from 1971. Nothing at all for anything with LY. |
