The older T-34/76 has a smaller turret and the commander's cupola is not visible. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/01/Soviet_Tank_T-34.jpg |

Odd that they had T-34s but used GMC trucks and Land Rovers as Soviet trucks. How would a film producer in West Germany in 1955 get hold of a T-34? |

It is odd, but most filming locations were in Upper Franconia, the north of Bavaria, close to the border of Thuringia, then part of East Germany. One place that was used for filming was Ludwigsstadt, which was a border railway station which had to be used to get into the GDR. In those years there was no wall or high fences. Other places, like Töpen, were close to the border, too. It probably was possible to take the East German border guards as background and the West German border guards as background film crew, which would account for the Tempo-Land-Rover. -- Last edit: 2006-11-02 10:15:08 |
