Location is Avenida Atlântica, at Copacabana Palace Hotel sidewalk. All taxis had these red plates (and all commercial vehicles also) and, at the time, only with numbers. Above the numbers you may read DISTRITO FEDERAL, which meant Rio de Janeiro, just like it was for Washington, DC. Rio de Janeiro remained capital of Brazil until 1960, when the new city Brasilia, well in the middle of nothing, was officially assigned as new capital. It is a pity there is no mention to the Romi-Isetta, green and white, behind the Chevy. Romi-Isetta was the very first brazillian made car in Brazil, and was sold between 1956 and 1961. -- Last edit: 2013-10-01 17:34:03 |
