Wrong. It is a 1978 Plymouth Fury.

I'm pretty sure it is a Plymouth Gran Fury too. Do you have any proof, Rocker B.J., that prooves otherwise?

It's definitely a Fury, not a Gran Fury. The Gran Fury was a bigger car at this time.

Is there any side pictures of this car? That would help to tell if it is a Gran Fury or a Fury.

Yikes! That light is huge! They'd probably need the 440 to compensate for that.

Also, if you're gonna be posting in French, shouldn't you be doing it on the original French version of this website?

The language options just change the website's user interface. The database -- the pictures and comments -- is the same.

I believe the large chrome base is the siren housing.

Can't you put it in English?(if you can) so we all can read your comments, it's not like they're top secret.

OR,

Vous ne pouvez pas la mettre en anglais? (Si vous pouvez), de sorte que nous pouvons tous lire vos commentaires, ce n'est pas comme ils sont très secret.

3 stars. Four are used in addition to the Chrysler Newport for the entirity of the chase.

Given those singular rotary lights, I'm led to believe that this movie's production staff acquired a few retired Michigan State Police cars and just painted them over with Detroit PD's livery.

Or, did Detroit PD really outfit their cars in that manner at one time?

I always liked that paintjobs on the 70's Detroit police cars- so much better than the scheme they used from the early to late 2000's.

They wouldn’t be ex-Michigan with those massive beacons. Michigan did (and still do) use red beacons, but they’re smaller. They never used a beacon with a big chrome base, nor did they ever put a siren inside the base. Most of the cars in this scene are likely a mix of genuine Detroit PD vehicles and unknown mock ups (the tactical service’s Plymouth’s could be actual Detroit PD units, as their tactical vehicles did use the red/blue ELS combo irl.). Detroit DID fit single beaconed lights to their patrol cars (with sirens in the chrome base) around the time of this movie, but from what I’ve checked on the web they seemed to have only had blue lenses rather than red.

The only car that could have been a mocked up Michigan vehicle is the 1982/4 Plymouth Gran Fury (the first cop car that pulled into the alleyway). It didn’t feature the massive red beacon of the Newports and standard Fury’s of this car chase, and Michigan did actually start to operate Gran Fury’s at the time this movie was made. It would have been on loan though, if this was the case

Greenlight Toys made both a 1:18 and 1:43 scale toy car of the Fury.
