The car is a special and it appears to contain an engine of a capacity not offered by Riley in 1933. (Assuming it's not yet another DVLA cock-up). If the car is registered as a Riley Glebe Special, then that should be how we refer to it, the chassis could have come from one model and the engine from another, or even another make, AC coming to mind, or it could be a bored out Riley 15/6. The date is correct, Swansea County Borough Council issued WN 5218 in January 1933, and WN 6200 in January 1934. http://rileyrob.co.uk/history/index.htm -- Last edit: 2013-12-31 18:38:50 |

I could find nothing for the 'Glebe Special' or any details of the cars history. I had some doubt because of the 1999 year for the date of first (re-)registration in case it was re-bodied then from a derelict car rather than being a genuine 1930s special. |

I don't think that matters. A special is a special, no matter what its date of construction, but I am intrigued to know where the engine came from. 1991 cc is the capacity of the AC six cylinder engine in production from 1919 to the early 60s. |

.... and various 6 cyl Triumphs until 1950s. |

Found it Riley Grebe Replica... http://www.flickr.com/photos/querth/6081168804/ Grebe (not Glebe as registered on one website) http://rileyrob.co.uk/specs/12-6/grebe.htm possibly existed in the 1930s. |

Well done, and I looked at it in the history file and it didn't register............must be the gin! I wonder what it's a replica of, though. Riley's did use bird names, Falcon, Lincock, Kestrel but Grebe is a new one on me. -- Last edit: 2013-12-31 20:00:22 |

FYI i rebuilt this car in the mid 2000's it's a bored out race tuned Riley special ( Riley 14/6 engine iirc) built as a replica of the actual Riley Grebe racer which was never built but was offered for sale in a brochure, as far as I know it now lives in France and is still raced competitively. |
