What's it for? Are those aerials part of it, or is it just parked in front of them? |

The Convertible in the back is a Renault Floride, or? |

Feeling it may be an Albion, its a government testing station testing sound , so maybe a mobile lab , unfortunately cannot read the writing on side. |

http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p458577921/h5A13F000#h5a13f000 Link to "www.stilltimecollection.co.uk" http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p791469481/h137407B9#h137407b9 It looks to be either an Albion Claymore, or a Dennis Stork, if it's based on a lorry chassis, as I think it's too new to be a Sentinel. The unfathomable bit is that it might be based on an underfloor engine bus chassis, in which case it could be a Leyland Royal Tiger, an AEC Reliance or even a Seddon Pennine, the Beeb had at least one, but it had six wheels. |

The truck chassis look less likely to me than an underfloor engine bus chassis. Size and front overhang remind me of an AEC Regal IV but finding the actual maker or bodymaker will not be easy I guess. |

It does look a bit big for an Albion Claymore. |

Under what is probably the "ER" royal cypher the bottom line almost certainly reads "Ministry of Technology" (so after October 1964). The upper line possibly includes "xxxxxx & Research xxxxxxx" although thats partly covered by the person's head and the remainder is a best guess. I agree its either a mobile test laboratory or demonstration unit. |

If we get this and the Dennis fire engine model designation ( should not be too hard ) we have nailed everything |

Dennis it is then edit: Background notes for future reference Location is probably Building Research Station, Watford later renamed Building Research Establishment (now BRE) The formation of the Ministry of Technology in October 1964 included ten former DSIR (Department of Scientific and Industrial Research) stations, so the mobile lab's lettering on the side would have changed. -- Last edit: 2014-02-20 13:58:45 |
