Actually, this is (was?) a 1982-89 Plymouth Gran Fury.(this one is 1982-85,I don't see a "third eye" in the back window) |
◊ 2007-06-09 22:23 |
This one is actually the Canadian counterpart of the Gran Fury, a 1985 Plymouth Caravelle |

So when does the Diplomat appear? |
◊ 2007-06-10 20:01 |
The Diplomat appeared right at the beginning when Matt Frewer yells 'We're nowhere near the east Seattle parkway' The grille clearly reads Dodge. |

And how long does it stay a Diplomat? ![]() |
◊ 2007-06-10 21:08 |
about 45 seconds |

That makes sense, Vancouver is listed as a filming location on the IMDB -- Last edit: 2007-06-12 02:35:23 |

It started as an '84 or '85 Dodge Diplomat AHB, then became a Gran Fury (or Caravelle) when they start shooting at it, then became a Diplomat again (note the silver taillights) -- Last edit: 2008-05-19 01:18:40 |

how can you tell? |
◊ 2008-05-19 01:20 |
The grill I think |
◊ 2008-05-20 03:19 |
I don't any claer Caravelle pics but I compaired the grill on the one in the pics above to a very clear pic I have of an '88 Gran Fury and there identical so if the grill is differnt (on the Caravelle) this is defineatly a Gran Fury |
◊ 2008-05-20 04:29 |
I was guessing about the grill, it might be the same, but it looks a little different to me ![]() It could be something else, check out the thumbnail pictures. Maybe there's a clue there, like an actual "Caravelle" badge on the fender or something... |

According to wikipedia, this car would actually be "Carvelle Salon", in order to distinguish it from the smaller K-body Caravelle introduced for 1983. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Gran_Fury |
◊ 2008-08-24 06:14 |
Yes, but before then this car was simply known as the Caravelle. I'm not sure when the police-package Caravelle was first introduced, whether 1981 or 1982. But it wasn't known as the Salon. And since this is at the most a 1985 model due to the absence of a third brake light (this being ID'd as a 1985 model is just a guess), we might want to default to the first year available and simply leave out the Salon name. -- Last edit: 2008-08-24 06:14:59 |

Makes sense, I guess you can change it to '81 then if you'd like. I thought that this was an specifically an '85 model (since it was identified as such), but now that I look it was Snookie who said it and you can't always trust him when it comes to model years, can you? ![]() |

that car took a beating! |
◊ 2010-12-18 13:24 |
i just checked the grilles between a caravelle and a gran fury but i don't see a difference |

Four stars is an overload asking me. Three stars is enough, considering it was only used in the scene where it gets shot at/rolls over. It was probably inoperable following the rollover, so they replaced it with the Diplomat. I might be wrong though, but the Diplomat is seen more often than the Caravelle.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A light blue one that makes only one scene – the only one not to be wrecked, too… ![]() -- Last edit: 2011-05-28 10:50:48 |

Yes: made in Canada |
◊ 2012-08-08 05:02 |
This one has the Pentastar hood ornament, which started in 1982, and black windshield wipers, which I think started in 1983. |
Donovan Savage ◊ 2014-10-19 03:05 |
I agree too it should be a 1984 Plymouth Caravelle Salon |

I see some RCMP blue on the hood underside. |
