Never heard these referred to as 10 tonners , later Militant was a 10 tonner , sometimes the 0854 referred to as 6X6 Matadors . |

I found a couple of sources that refer to 10-Ton, however since they were built for the RAF for specific uses, refuellers, cranes etc. I agree there probably was no tonnage as applied to a general service truck. Although the name Matador was specifically the 4x4 variant (ref: http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p816148126 "Not a "Matador 6x6" but a 6-wheel drive chassis combining the 644 Marshal double-drive rear bogie with 853 Matador front axle.") I guess 6x6 'Matador' which is in common usage would be a good description where a refueller, crane etc. has been converted to civilian use. |

I agree, official name 0854 unofficial name in common use Matador 6x6. Apparently the triangular windows in back of cab mean this is an ex Raf Refuelling tanker. -- Last edit: 2014-04-08 13:13:13 |
