Plate reads 12RN65 or 12PN65. |

Royal Navy registered therefore 'RN' so 12RN65 (applies before 1982). After 1982 all British armed services use the same VRN series as current at the time of manufacture, starting with ‘KA’. Thus all Army ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ vehicles, all RAF and RN non-specialist vehicles now have the same VRN range. |

What is it for? Looks more serious than just a fuel tanker. (We had a street festival recently, with lots of portaloos installed for the day. Afterwards they were emptied by a tanker which had lots of extra bits like this). |

Re-fueling land-based Royal Navy aircraft apparently. Although the information on the web is not conclusive, yellow refuelers were RN and green ones were RAF. Some Royal Navy aircraft would operate from RAF stations so either re-fuelers were used for both services or possibly some locations were 'Royal Navy only'. http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p119176751/h340140F1#h340140f1 https://www.flickr.com/photos/21437618@N02/4145277126/ edit: and note for self/future.. Refueller and refueler are both acceptable for spelling purposes. -- Last edit: 2014-08-23 12:32:52 |
