I agree Weasel, there are two categories of uggly cars... the ones like Ami 6 that have originality though a design to give fear and those like Axel or Visa wich are just uggly with a shape line to die of ![]() |

The Maestro was a bland inoffensive design but not ugly. It was OK to drive and better than some more popular Fords or Vauxhalls at the time although the quality was not as good. The Montego as the sedan/saloon version was a far worse design because of the strange concave door panels plus the rear and side windows. |

That's right. Similar situation we had for example with Avantime (maybe not ugly but... strange). BTW. I must to say that I prefer more even Visa than some recent cars in retro style. Retro - thing that I hate (not only in cars). ![]() -- Last edit: 2006-10-13 17:42:28 |

I find that it looks good actually ![]() About the Visa, 1st one was not very good looking, but the second one was better (when they restyled the front). The GTI version was nice ![]() -- Last edit: 2006-10-13 20:17:37 |

I've had several Maestros, they've been excellent vehicles. I used to have a 1991 ex-police Maestro hatchback, similar to the one pictured, and at the moment I have two Maestro vans, one of which I've had for 11 years and its never let me down |

Yes it is. So much in fact, that vast majority rusted away and of the 605,410 there are 11.574 left on the roads. |

Which district or constabulary is the car based on? |

This scene filmed a long way north of London at Much Wenlock, Shropshire but the car has a Brighton, Sussex registration. The car is probably the film company's idea of a generic "Panda car". |

B816 EOA was registered in Birmingham in 1985. The registration letters allocated to Brighton are CD and UF. Are we looking at a different car? If you think that the Maestro was on sale at the same time as the Renault 9 and 11, or the Peugeot 309 it doesn't seem so bad. |

My source http://waxxtm.com/registrations.html lists OA Brighton OB Birmingham OC Birningham so obviously an error since Birmingham is more likely. ![]() |

One of our stable of cars, a Vauxhall Corsa which we use as a dog kennel, is registered P xxx GOA, quite definitely in Birmingham. The car is twelve years old and does about 500 miles a year, but is very useful as a spare. My Bentley is NOL xxx also registered in Birmingham, and the Audi was BP 55 xxx before I put my personal plate on, which is part of the new Birmingham series. |

By the way! there is another unknown district and constabulary police car from /vehicle_7015-Ford-Fiesta-1984.html (a Ford Fiesta) also featured from Clockwise, which the panda car looks like from an animated children TV series "PC Pinkerton". -- Last edit: 2009-01-15 12:01:49 |
