Introduced at the September 1970 Commercial Motor Show, the Atkinson Borderer was to be named simply the Mk.II but the company’s publicity department came up with the idea of giving each Atkinson model an individual name. The Mk.2 cab was announced at the 1967 Kelvin Hall Show, and entered production in 1968. The new names in 1970 reflected significant changes in chassis engineering, although the Mk.2 cab remained unchanged. Prior to this, the whole range WAS named, with all tractors being called Silver Knight, and rigids being Black or Gold Knight, depending upon application. |
